Safety Tip! Drive Safely On Wet Roads
After a beautiful summer, the rains of autumn are upon us again in the Pacific Northwest. With rain can come more treacherous driving conditions. Here are some great tips to help you get where you want to go, all while staying safe!
First, you want to make sure that your equipment isn’t worn. Have you recently replaced your windshield wipers? If not, they may be dried and cracked from the heat of the summer, making them less effective at clearing the rain from your windshield. Fresh wipers will ensure that you will be able to see out of a clear windshield. Further, how is the tread on your tires? If your tires are starting to go bald, they may not have the best traction in more slippery conditions.
Now, even if your tires and wipers are brand new, you aren’t invincible in treacherous weather conditions. Since it typically takes longer to stop in the rain, be sure to leave a longer following distance! That way, if you need to brake quickly, you will have plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Finally, while it’s important for you as the driver to have great visibility, the other drivers also need to see you. Even during the daytime, it’s often good to turn on your headlights during the rain. Since visibility is generally low during times of heavy rain, you want to ensure that you are visible.
Driving in rainy conditions can certainly be a challenge. But if you pay attention to a few specific details, you and your car can still arrive at your destination safely.
